Contest Rocks the Rock Hall

(Disclaimer: Please note that this post and all the photographs are in no way associated or endorsed by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Furthermore, before attending the event, I called the Hall, identified myself as a photographer and indicated that I would like to shoot the event with pro gear. Given the OK by the Hall’s telephone representative, I proceeded to take photographs and then to share this pictorial editorial with you.)

Saturday, June 26, Cleveland

While last Friday marked the one-year anniversary of pop icon Michael Jackson’s death, faces were aglow at Saturday’s commemorative trio of Jackson contests at the Rock Hall, where participants from three to fifty entertained the crowd with Jackson songs, costumes, moves and memories as part of the Rock Hall’s Michael Jackson Tribute Weekend.

The free event was emceed by a host looking lusciously like a young Lenny Kravitz, who energetically directed the audience-scored participants through nearly two hours of entertainment.

Notable highlights included:

  • Three-year-old Aidan, who scored  big points with onlookers with his mini Jackson moves
  • A 50-year-old woman who ably proved that dance isn’t the sole dominion of the younger set (obvious case in point: How old was Michael??)
  • A break in the contests, when the entire audience moved in synchronicity, participating in a group dance they somehow all seemed to know.

Best-in-show dance winner went to a youngster from Orlando.
