KLM LIVE: Public Event

Michael Jackson Dance-off | Sing-off | Look-alike

Contest Rocks the Rock Hall

(Disclaimer: Please note that this post and all the photographs are in no way associated or endorsed by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Furthermore, before attending the event, I called the Hall, identified myself as a photographer and indicated that I would like to shoot the event with pro gear. Given the OK by the Hall’s telephone representative, I proceeded to take photographs and then to share this pictorial editorial with you.)

Saturday, June 26, Cleveland

While last Friday marked the one-year anniversary of pop icon Michael Jackson’s death, faces were aglow at Saturday’s commemorative trio of Jackson contests at the Rock Hall, where participants from three to fifty entertained the crowd with Jackson songs, costumes, moves and memories as part of the Rock Hall’s Michael Jackson Tribute Weekend.

The free event was emceed by a host looking lusciously like a young Lenny Kravitz, who energetically directed the audience-scored participants through nearly two hours of entertainment.

Notable highlights included:

  • Three-year-old Aidan, who scored  big points with onlookers with his mini Jackson moves
  • A 50-year-old woman who ably proved that dance isn’t the sole dominion of the younger set (obvious case in point: How old was Michael??)
  • A break in the contests, when the entire audience moved in synchronicity, participating in a group dance they somehow all seemed to know.

Best-in-show dance winner went to a youngster from Orlando.

Start Your Engines!

Start Your Engines!

(Or at least give them a wipe down!)

It was nothing but grins and gleam at Summit Racing’s Annual Cruise-in last week, where racing and restoration nuts gathered to share their passion for pistons and, well, parts - from cylinders to pumps, plugs, rods and valves, just to start the list. (Yes, this is my second auto show in short order, but this one by request.)

What I’ve learned from mingling with the subculture of engine-heads is:

  • there is a thriving array of local activities to be found -  from dirt track races under mercury lights on steamy summer nights to drag races to an endless stream of shows.
  • this is a world marked by diversity, and I’ve been as likely to meet the gentleman engineer|historian as I have those in muscle tees and tats. It’s really all about the cars, and these folks are more than willing to share their knowledge and passion.
  • that restoration is really an investment, and what better hobby than one with potential return.
  • that there is a strong sense of humor among this group.

So, if you’ve NEVER been to a car show, I ask what you are waiting for.  At worst, you’ll spend an hour or two opened to something outside of your usual realm.

At best, you might just find yourself with a new hobby.

admin - Thanks so much, JCodyHawke! I’ve been focused on other things, but it would be fun to get some gallery stuff together one of these days.

j.cody - An awesomely artistic eye….why have not yet seen your work displayed at (the few) local art venues?

Welcome to the Parade

Everyone is Irish

Cleveland, OH

Inventorying my photo library, I ran across these St. Patty’s Day Parade photos from March. While the event is over, I hope you’ll find the spirit still very much alive in these photos.

And in case you’ve never partaken of the St. Patty’s Day Parade in Cleveland, I HIGHLY recommend it! While I was expecting to see a couple of thousand people scattered along the route, it was standing room only, crammed with jovial families and party-goers…most of them green.

If you know of a great St. Patty’s Day gathering or other public event that you would like to see me cover, please comment below.

A Rainy Day in Kent

A Rainy Day in Kent

With nothing pressing to do on a rainy Saturday, out go Kam and the cameras to cruise around Kent.

I don’t know about you, but I am taken in by details – the way the rain falls; reflections; how droplets form circles on puddles; the ways that physics and nature tells stories if you just sit still and listen.
