The Red Playground

The Red Playground

ALL the kids around here know this playground by its unofficial name – the same name they all seem to come up with. Welcome to The Red Playground.

I find it interesting how kids describe people, places and things by color, smell, feel, likeness or some other outstanding feature. For example:

  • My oldest daughter used to call my Dad “The Red Grandpa” because on their first meeting of significance, he happened to be wearing a red shirt.
  • My little brothers used to call their bed “the brick” because it was made of a foam so rigid that it felt like one.
  • There’s also “the smelly [magic] markers,” “the girl with the blue eyelashes” [a woman recognized for her blue eye shadow], and, well, lots of other examples that my poor tired brain cannot muster at 4 a.m.

Have a good addition to the list? Leave a comment! (Please, for god’s sake.. SOMEone. Leave. A. Comment.) !!

Speaking of Native Americans- when trouble is afoot
“the wind is red.”

Andy - Red hair at The Red Playground…how synchronistic is that?
You didn’t rent a kid, did you ? :)
If you’re up for exploring the internet, look up Native American “red road.”
