Stonewater Skatepark (Grand Opening)

Stonewater Skatepark’s Grand Opening

Kent, OH

Saturday marked the opening of Kent Parks and Recreation’s latest effort – Stonewater Skatepark (located on Stonewater, adjacent to the Klaben dealership, off Route 59).

Temperatures in the high 80s didn’t deter community members, supporters, families and skaters from ages three to thirty or more from coming out to participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony, trick-skating contests and a try at the new configuration, which was given a design boost by Kent State University architecture students.

The following images – some of which I took artistic liberties with – highlight individual skateboarders, the crowd and the event. Enjoy.

Chrissie and Jude

Chrissie and Jude

(Oooops… Make That “Christine” for You Cali People)

“Honor” and “delight” are the two words that describe my feeling at being able to shoot some engagement photos for my youngest daughter, Christine Leper, and soon’ish-to-be son-in-law, Jude Vais – both of whom abhor the camera and anything remotely resembling formal posturing (in any sense!).

Family and friends know that Chrissie is language student at Berkeley, where her Uncle Paul Plouffe taught for years. Jude has a degree in philosophy and plans to pursue advanced degrees in the field with a plan to teach.

Their wedding is scheduled post-graduation for Chrissie – May of 2012 – somewhere in the Napa region (family, take note!)

Kent’s Black Squirrel Triathlon

Kent’s Black Squirrel Adventure Triathlon

The weather was nearly perfect for Saturday’s Black Squirrel Adventure Triathlon, where Kent residents and adventure enthuasiasts competed for fun and prizes in the annual event, which includes a 1.8 mile flat water leg (negotiated by canoe or kayak), a 2.5-mile footrace and a 10-mile bicycling loop.
